IronCoder 4 Results

IronCoder 4 is over. Congratulations to Jonathan Wight for winning. His SpaceCam application is quite impressive. Thanks to Mark Dalrymple for choosing a cool theme (space) and API (Core Image) and judging the competition. Thanks to all the IronCoders for participating.

My submission, Space Defender, is a version of the classic Space Invaders game with gratuitous Core Image effects. Developing it was very educational. I hadn’t ever directly used the Core Graphics or Core Image APIs. It was actually pretty easy to create a game with these APIs. However, while I spent too much time working on the app and not enough time sleeping this weekend, I didn’t spend any time tuning performance. So, don’t even bother trying to run this on a system with a weak graphics card (e.g., MacBook). My MacBook Pro runs it fine.

All the submissions are available for download. Individual submissions can also be downloaded. If you are interested in Core Image examples, there are now thirteen new ones to explore.
